PROCLAMATION WHEREAS Mabel Mac-Farlane has completed more than 20 years of faithful and dedicated service as Librarian of the D. R. Moon Memorial Library, and WHEREAS she has submitted her resignation with an effective date of June 30, 1980 in order to retire, and WHEREAS I wish to personally express my utmost appreciation to her, for her dedicated service and professionalism in the development and operation of the local Public Library, and WHEREAS they will be an Open House to honor Mabel MacFarlane at the D.R. Moon Memorial Library on Sunday afternoon, September 7, 1980.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lester Janisewski, Mayor, do proclaim Sunday, September 7, 1980 as Mabel MacFarlane Day and do hereby urge all citizens of Stanley and the surrounding communities to join in the Open House and personally extend appreciation to her, for her outstanding service.

Signed this 27th day of August, 1980 Lester Janisewski, Mayor City of Stanley Film on “forgotten teen” to be Shown at Faith Free Church Where Eagles Fly, a new film geared to the “forgotten teen,” the junior high school student, will be shown at Faith Evangelical Free Church on September 7th, 1980 at 7:30 p.m. It is open to the public and no admission is charged.

Jeff is learning that just being a teenager is tough, but to be the new student in junior high school adds an almost impossible dimension. Trying to make the most of his different situation, Jeff is ridiculed in front of the study hall crowd for reading the Bible. Thinking that an invitation to a party is the sign of acceptance, he quickly realizes that it is no place for a Christian.

Learning to cope is made easier by Jeff’s Uncle Paul who is teaching Jeff to fly. In some exciting flying scenes, he sees things from God’s vantage point and learning to trust his instruments is a valuable lesson of faith in God’s Word.

An emergency develops when Jeff’s pilot friend loses consciousness…Produced by Heinz Fussle, Where Eagles Fly is a Gospel Films, Inc. release.

State Capitol Newsletter… T he Radicals Strike Again (a bomb explodes at UWMadison) The President of the Wisconsin Student Association, a 19-year-old who is a resident of New York state, promptly called a news conference to warn that violence would continue until, he said in effect, the university administration acknowledges and acts upon the demands for “reform of” the university, including acceptance of such proposals as abolition of the Voluntary Reserve Officers Training corps, the inclusion of students in policy making matters such as conduct rules, curriculum planning and faculty controls, among others.

But if such demands for participation by the students in the management of the university that is entrusted to the Constitutional Board of Regents and the administrators they chose ever had any chance of serious consideration, they probably vanished in the echoes of the violence perpetrated in the darkness of the early morning of August 24, a date that will live in infamy, as one observer forecast…

Walter Brovald Gets Behind The 8-Ball Since The Republican can largely be blamed for publicizing the supposed coming of the bell, and since I’ve taken a good deal of razzing for it, I have no other choice than to blame an agency of the British government for the whole affair, hoping that there will be no international repercussions because of it.

INDIVIDUALS SHOULD HAVE THE FREEDOM TO QUESTION LIBERTY editorial One of our most priceless freedoms is the freedom to seek out the truth and having found it in our own hearts to uphold it and fight for it, even to death.

The rights and privileges granted a people are not to be taken as dogma. Individuals should not be made to feel that they must have the rights because they were set down in the Bill of Rights many long years ago.

They must be encouraged to test the soundness of the freedoms; they must be encouraged to analyze; they must be given, indeed, a freedom to question the goodness of the rights they enjoy… Back to the 8-ball column Just went down to the corner (at Broadway and Third, to look at the initials in the freshly laid cement. I’m trying to figure out who M, S, J, K, E, K, K, V, B, P and the half-dozen other initiallers are. I did that a few times when I was a kid. Don’t know what was so much fun about it – getting away with something, I guess. I finally got caught one day, though, by an irate new-sidewalk owner. I went home with a boot in the pants and some noise about fool’s names being in public places. Sure messes up a nice cement job.

(photo) THE LATE D.R. MOON.

In whose memory a magnificent library building is to be erected by his family, at the corner of Second avenue and Emery streets, and presented to the city of Stanley as a lasting memorial to the life and achievements of a great and good man.

THE SITE SECURED.

For the New Memorial Library to be Presented to the City of Stanley by the late D. R. Moon’s Family.

The Location Corners on the Public Park recently Presented by the Northwestern Lumber Co.

Mrs. D. R. Moon has purchased what is known as the Ledum property at the corner of Emery St. and 2nd Ave. and will erect thereon the D. R. Moon Memorial Library to the memory of her late husband who was so well known and greatly revered by the people of Stanley.

No more fitting place could be chosen for a memorial than the city which he more than any other was instrumental in founding here and whose interests he had ever at heart and which met its greatest loss in his untimely death. We understand that the plans chosen contemplate a brick building to cost in the neighborhood of $8,000 (246,762.86).* This does not include the books and furnishing which will also come from the same source. We understand that construction will begin at once and the building will be completed this fall. Stanley will have one of the finest libraries in the state and unquestionably the finest to be found in a city of its size.
