The D.R. Moon Memorial Library will be furnished! Voting in regular council Monday, Feb. 16, council members voted to approve new furniture by Henricksen in the amount of $132,131.85 from FFP grant funds.
Also included Monday for library news was a tour invitation to see library construction, made to the council by D.R. Moon Memorial Library Director Elizabeth Miniatt.
First built and dedicated in December 1901 following a donation by Sally Moon, the now almost 125-year-old library named for Eau Claire lumber baron Delos Rensselaer Moon should see the new addition open later this year.
Operating out of the Stanley Fire Station on First Avenue while work continues on the new library addition at 154 East Fourth Avenue, invitation to take a library tour was made by D.R. Moon Library Director Elizabeth Miniatt as part of a monthly update to the council update Monday, Feb. 16.
“I talked to Mike at our last meeting this past Thursday, and if you all are amenable and willing we would like to have a council visit to library project site on your second meeting in March,” she said. “So I believe March 16. At 5:30 p.m. there we’ll do a walk through with Dan German our superintendent on site. Estimated to last 20 minutes, the council tour will take place before the 6 p.m. meeting at city hall.
As for recent work completed on the library addition, Miniatt shared that it includes exterior framing for the addition, pouring of interior concrete stairs for the basement, pouring of concrete pads, and setting of final precast planks and new ramp steel, as well as installing HVAC equipment. Hoeft was scheduled to continue setting steel for the ramp as well as setting the elevator shaft, along with rough-ins for HVAC and fire suppression.
Also included in the monthly council update from Miniatt was announcement of a series of library spotlight articles to run in the newspaper as well as a new library program entitled Comfort Corner, meant for those with dementia and their caregivers.
“Thanks to grant funding from the Chippewa Valley Dementia Coalition, we are launching a Comfort Corner, our first memory cafe program for people living with dementia and their caregivers.” With the first Comfort Corner held Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 1 to 2:3- p.m., the program will be held bimonthly
“We plan to have it every other month for this year,” Miniatt said of Comfort Corner. “So it will be February, April, etc. It is going to feature games, activities, refreshments, and socialization, and then we’re also partnering with the local ADRCs to come and give a professional side to caring for people with dementia and living with dementia.”
Miniatt shared other library events as well.
“Other programs include Storytime each Monday at 10:30 with River Source joining us for the second Monday of the month for Storytime,” she said. “Just Create It is on the last Wednesday of each month. The book club is currently reading ‘The Quiet Season’ and will meet on March 5 at 2 p.m. Nikki and I have also been coordinating with the school and we’re going to offer a book blinging program for teenagers there on March 3.”
