The Stanley Common Council met Monday, April 6 after 7:35 p.m. in city hall following committee of the whole. Included in the night’s consent agenda were several items, including meeting minutes, Open book and board of review notice, an operator permit for Alex Joerger, attendance approval for Officer Andrew Holty at the FTD Refresher at a cost of $95, approval of Street Closure request for the Stanley Independence Day Committee Event on July 4, and approval of mayor’s appointment of Randy Van De Loo as a Stanley Housing Authority board member.
Also in consent from Monday were approval of the mayor’s appointment of Ron Patten as fire chief through Jan. 1, 2029, approval of the removal of Firefighter/EMR Kramschusters from probationary status effective April 1, approval of the 2026 fire roster as recommended by the fire committee, and approval of appointment of election officials including Donella Christianson as Chief Election Inspector, as well as Norman Christianson, Mary Morello, Bonnie Vircks, Edward Staib, Erica Sturm, and Victoria Rogalski.
As for meeting business the council approved bi-monthly reports as submitted by the deputy clerk and department heads, a pay application to Hoeft Builders for library work totaling $259,397.87, and approval of accounts payable checks in the amount of $1,006,511.49.
Also from Monday were approval of the recommendation to repeal charter ordinance 2-2-3 joining the clerk and administrator positions, approval of $4 million in general obligation promissory noted and issuance and sale of a $4 million anticipation note, and approval of an update to fire department wages, primarily related to office work and forwarded from the fire department committee, wages generally ranging between $14 and $19 per hour for office work, fire chief Ron Patten paid $24 per four for said work. Also in items from April 6 were approval of a recommendation from the Public works, streets, and grounds committee for the Water Wells Solutions 1 Project Removal/Partial modifications with an estimated total of $19,245 to $24,285, as well as a second recommendation from the committee for Water Wells Solutions Project 2 Final Modifications with an estimated total of $16,870 to $21,910.
Council members also approved an organizational chart for municipal employees in the city of Stanley as recommended by the Personnel Committee, changing lieutenant to sergeant under the police organizational chart. The council approved the purchase of trees for the Arbor Day Celebration as recommended by the Parks and Cemetery Committee, as well a Chapman Park Campground Expansion as recommended by Parks and Cemetery, and approved the recommendation on the new Non-Profit Stanley Community Center Usage Agreement as recommended by the Parks and Cemetery Committee.
The council also approved waving the cost of the Stanley Community Center for the Stanley-Boyd Alumni board meeting as recommended by Parks and Cemetery Committee, and approved action brought forward from closed session, voting to pay Deputy Clerk Maggie Wurst at a rate of $24 per hour.
Stanley City Council meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in city hall, preceded by Committee of the Whole. The public is welcome and invited to attend either or both meetings.
