In recognition of their outstanding performances, Stanley-Boyd Wrestlers Nevaeh Walters, Sierra Marten, Lillian Fitzl, Koraline Pennala, and Ziva Blair have been nominated as Stanley-Boyd Athletes of the Week, showcasing their incredible achievements and potential.
The hard work and dedication of the five talented young athletes were on full display at the February 14th regional wrestling tournament, where the team earned an impressive 5th place finish out of 20 teams. Coach Jake Fitzsimmons couldn't be prouder of his athletes, all of whom made their mark by winning matches and finishing in the top 6 in their weight classes.
Lillian Fitzl (132 lbs) and Nevaeh Walters (138 lbs) each took home 3rd place in their respective divisions, earning them spots in the upcoming sectional meet in Ladysmith. Sierra Marten (120 lbs) also had a standout performance, finishing 4th and securing her place in the sectional competition. These three girls have proven that their hard work and determination have paid off, and they're poised to keep pushing forward in their wrestling careers.
Meanwhile, Koraline Pennala (114 lbs) and Ziva Blair (126 lbs) may not have finished in the top 4, but their efforts were no less impressive. Both girls earned 6th place in their weight classes, with each of them winning matches and gaining invaluable experience on the mat. Their growth this season has been remarkable, and the future looks bright for these young wrestlers.
"The girls have worked hard this year and have made some big improvements,” Coach Fitzsimmons said. He highlighted that all five of these athletes are freshmen or sophomores, which speaks volumes about their potential. With several years left to develop and improve their skills, Coach Fitzsimmons is eager to see just how far they can go.

Congratulations to Nevaeh, Sierra, Lillian, Koraline, and Ziva for being nominated as this week's Stanley-Boyd Athletes of the Week – a well-deserved recognition for a group of young wrestlers who are already showing great promise!
