Charlie Hoel has been named Athlete of the Week for his outstanding performance and leadership on the court this season. Orioles Boys Basketball Head Coach Dakota Nichols praises the Stanley-Boyd sophomore for his significant growth, not only in his personal stats but also in how he motivates his teammates.
“Charlie’s leadership shines through not just in his individual improvement, but in how he elevates the entire team,” Coach Nichols shared. “Going from 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game his freshman year to 16 points and 7 rebounds this season is a testament to his dedication and work ethic during the off-season.” He adds that Hoel’s growth reflects a strong commitment to his craft, but what truly sets him apart is his unselfish play. “By drawing double teams, Charlie creates opportunities for his teammates to succeed. We are looking forward to finishing the season strong,” said Coach Nichols.

Hoel, who has been playing basketball competitively since third grade enjoys the competitive nature of basketball, stating, “I think what I enjoy most about basketball is probably just being able to play and compete.”
Reflecting on his best memories, Hoel recalls, “My favorite memory of basketball with the Orioles is when we played Thorp my freshman year. There were a lot of people there and we got a big win.”
As the season continues, Hoel's leadership and commitment to improving both individually and as a team player will no doubt inspire his teammates and fans alike. His leadership on and off the court, and his passion for the game have made a lasting impact on the Orioles basketball team. Charlie Hoel is undoubtedly a player to watch, and the Orioles are lucky to have him leading the way.
