The Stanley-Boyd High School Track Team is off to a strong start this season, thanks in part to standout freshman Jocelyn Hager, who has been named this week’s Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week. Coach Braxton Thompson praised Hager’s impressive debut and shared that she “has had an outstanding start to her high school career.”
“This is Hager's first year at our school, and she has been nothing but a standout athlete,” he commented.
Hager joined track last year after hearing good things from friends in gymnastics who encouraged her to give it a shot.
“I enjoy working out with my friends and the social aspect of track meets,” she added.

In her very first high school meet, Hager clocked a 7.66 in the 55-meter dash, placing second. She followed that with a 27.66 in the 200-meter dash, earning third place. Perhaps most notably, she took fourth place in the triple jump with an impressive mark of 32 feet, 7 inches — despite it being her first time ever competing in the event.
“She had never triple jumped before,” Thompson noted, “so placing so highly in her first competition when the caliber of competing athletes was so high is very impressive. I’m looking forward to seeing how much we can improve these marks throughout the season.”
Hager has already competed in the 55m dash, 200m dash, high jump, and triple jump, with triple jump being her favorite event because, as she explained, “you get multiple tries.”
One of Hager’s proudest moments so far has been placing second and third at a competitive early-season meet and she’s setting her sights even higher.
“This year I hope to place at conference in all of my events,” she mentioned.
Hager is proving to be a rising star in the Stanley-Boyd track program. If her season so far is any indication, her early accomplishments are just the beginning, and there's no doubt she has a bright future ahead. As she continues to grow and refine her skills, Hager is sure to leave a lasting impact on her team and set the bar high for future athletes to follow.
