The Stanley-Boyd Orioles softball team has no shortage of talent, but this week’s spotlight shines on senior shortstop and team captain Lauren Potaczek, who has been named the Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week.
Nominated by Head Coach Kim Goettl, Potaczek has been a cornerstone of the Orioles program for the past four years. As a senior leader, she’s known not only for her on-field skill but for the positive energy and commitment she brings to every practice and game.
“Lauren has been a dedicated player for the last four years,” said Coach Goettl. “Her leadership and willingness to put the team first has earned her the role as captain. She brings skill, leadership, and a positive attitude to the team.”
Potaczek’s journey in softball started young. “I played t-ball in 4K up until I couldn’t anymore,” she said. “Then I started actual softball in 4th grade.”
Her years of dedication paid off, with one of her favorite moments this season being the Orioles’ victories over Thorp and McDonnell. When asked what she loves most about the game, she mentioned: “The amazing people you meet along the way—and being outside!”
As the season continues, Potaczek has her sights set on unfinished business. Showing the determination that makes her a standout captain, she shared that her goal for the rest of the season is “to come back and get redemption on teams from the beginning of the season.”
With leaders like Lauren Potaczek at the helm, the Stanley-Boyd Orioles are in good hands as they push forward in their softball season. Her drive, optimism, and passion for teamwork continue to set the tone for the entire squad, inspiring them in every practice and game.
