Seventh grader Harley Geist has been selected as this week’s Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week for his hard work, standout performances, and consistent effort throughout the season.
One of Geist’s favorite moments from the season came when he found the end zone. “My favorite play from the season would probably be my touchdown against Mondovi,” Geist said. Another highlight came against Regis, when he powered through defenders to make a memorable play. “A moment from this season I will never forget would be against Regis when I ran 15 yards dragging someone,” he added. Another favorite memory with his teammates this year was “going undefeated.”
Middle School Head coach Sam Goettl praised Geist’s effort and toughness in the Orioles’ Week 2 win, noting that “Harley Geist influenced his team by finishing every down in a 14-0 win over Neillsville.”
Geist’s love for football started early. “I started playing football in 3rd or 4th grade and my dad was the one who got me into the sport,” he said and credits his father as his biggest inspiration. “My dad was the one who inspired me to play football.”
Over the years, Geist has shown versatility, playing multiple positions as he’s grown in the game. “When I first played tackle football in 5th grade, I was a wide receiver, then when I got into 6th grade I moved to running back, then when I got into 7th grade I moved back to wide receiver,” he explained.
In addition to football, Geist is a multi-sport athlete who also plays basketball and baseball.
Geist’s determination and versatility made him a standout for the Orioles this season — and a deserving choice for this week’s Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week. With his drive, toughness, and passion for competition, Geist is poised to continue making an impact for the Orioles in seasons to come.
