This week’s Athlete of the Week is Stanley-Boyd 8th grader Paxton Hugh, whose leadership and football IQ continue to make a major impact for the Orioles.
One of Hugh’s favorite memories on the field came in a comeback win over Mondovi, when the team went into halftime trailing—then responded by scoring 22 straight points to secure the victory. Beyond the games themselves, Hugh says the bus rides with teammates are some of the best parts of the season, building friendships and memories that carry on long after the final whistle.
Hugh first started playing football in fourth grade and has grown into a key player at quarterback and cornerback, previously playing linebacker before switching to his current defensive role. His versatility and understanding of the game haven’t gone unnoticed.
Middle school football head coach Sam Goettl praised Hugh’s command of the offense and ability to read the field, saying, “Paxton Hugh’s football IQ was displayed as he led a 46–0 win over Neillsville.”
Hugh credits his dad and brother as the biggest influences in his athletic journey, supporting and pushing him to get better. In addition to football, he’s a multi-sport athlete, also competing in wrestling, basketball, and baseball, showcasing his dedication and all-around athletic ability.
Paxton Hugh continues to stand out for his effort, attitude, and understanding of the game, making him a key contributor and a great example of what it means to be a Stanley-Boyd Oriole. Congratulations to Paxton Hugh on being named Athlete of the Week!
