Brayten Mallo

This week’s Athlete of the Week honors junior Brayten Mallo, a guard who has become a key contributor for the Orioles varsity basketball team this season. Mallo has been a steady presence in the lineup, bringing energy to every game, and stepping up in key moments. Head Coach Dakota Nicholas spoke highly of Mallo’s growth this season.
“Brayten Mallo has emerged as one of our most reliable scoring options this season, providing a consistent offensive presence night after night. Just as impressive is his commitment on the defensive end, where he regularly takes on the challenge of guarding the opposing team’s top perimeter player. He put in significant work during the offseason to elevate his all-around game.”
Brayten first picked up a basketball in elementary school, introduced to the game by his father. Since then, basketball has been a constant in his life. Playing guard — a position he’s held throughout his career — Mallo embraces the role, noting that being one of the shortest players on the court naturally shaped his game. When asked about his favorite memory playing for the Orioles, Mallo said it’s difficult to narrow it down.
“The entire journey has been great. I think just seeing the energy of the fans being so consistent every game is something amazing to see,” he said.
Two games especially stand out this season — the matchup at Regis and the opportunity to play at Hamline University — both memorable for the strong fan support and exciting atmosphere.
Behind every great athlete is a strong support system, and Mallo is quick to credit his.
“My mom and dad have always pushed me to be the best I can. My friends are always there to pick my head up with things don’t go my way. Last but definitely not least my grandpa is always at every game, no matter the sport, and no matter what he has going on, he’s always there to support me,” Mallo shared.
Through hard work and dedication, Brayten Mallo continues to represent Stanley-Boyd basketball with pride. His steady commitment to his team and community is what makes him this week’s Athlete of the Week.
