This week, the spotlight shines brightly on the entire varsity softball team of Stanley-Boyd, nominated by Orioles head softball coach Kim Goettl for showcasing what it truly means to be a strong team. The girls have demonstrated remarkable athletic skills and, according to Goettl, have also set records, including most strikeouts in a season and impressive batting averages. She commented that their outstanding achievements are a testament to their hard work during the offseason and unwavering focus throughout the season.
“I am nominating the entire varsity softball team for spotlight athlete of the week,” Goettl stated, highlighting the unity and talent of the squad. “This group of girls is the definition of a strong team. Athletically they are skilled and are crushing records, from most strikeouts in a season to best batting averages to overall record. Their time in the offseason and focus on the season has set them up for success. Their softball IQ is so impressive and makes it incredibly fun to coach.”
Goettl emphasizes that the team has faced several athletic opponents, but what truly sets them apart is their drive and exceptional team chemistry. “We have three sets of sisters on the team and even more who act like they are related. These girls understand how to inspire, drive, and push each other. They know when to back off and give space and when to step in to pick someone up,” Goettl added. It’s this bond that has been pivotal to their success, as it's clear they have played countless games together, building trust and understanding on and off the field.
Recently, the team celebrated a significant milestone by securing the regional championship with a commanding 6-0 victory over Bloomer. This triumph has propelled them into the next phase of their journey, with their first sectional game set for Tuesday, June 2nd, at home. “At the beginning of the season, we decided that we were going to be Electric, and they have never looked back. They focus on the current day and current task and conquer it as a team,” remarked Goettl. She added, “This is a group to remember and will forever be in the record books.”
As the season approaches its climax, it’s evident that this group of determined athletes will be remembered not just for their records but for the camaraderie and vibrant performance that has characterized their season. The Stanley-Boyd varsity softball team has created an atmosphere of support and success that is truly inspiring, and they have made a lasting impact on the Oriole softball program. Congratulations Stanley-Boyd Orioles Varsity Softball Team! We are so proud of you!
