Leadership Change on Town of Thorp Board as Schultze Steps In

The Town of Thorp learned through sample testing conducted in late April that creosote contamination was present at the Goggle-Eye Creek Bridge on Pine Road.
“It’s not hazardous,” Chairman Bob Kodl said. “But it’s contaminated.” He noted that about 250 tons of affected soil and 25 tons of lumber will be hauled to a landfill in Eau Claire for disposal. Creosote, once used as a wood preservative, can seep into surrounding soil and groundwater, making proper removal necessary. The Goggle-Eye Creek Bridge is slated for demolition and replacement as part of a larger project beginning in August that also includes paving and site preparation.
A familiar face is stepping away from local government as Louis Andruskiewicz has officially resigned from his role as 2nd Supervisor on the Town of Thorp Board. Andruskiewicz previously served as Town Chairman until his resignation in 2024. Despite stepping down from that leadership role, he remained active in town governance, staying on as 2nd Supervisor after being re-elected by the townspeople. His resignation was addressed at the August 13 town board meeting, which Town of Thorp resident Calvin Schultze attended. Just days later, at a special meeting on August 18, Schultze was appointed as 2nd Supervisor to serve the community — diving right in as the entire board attended the quarterly Wisconsin Towns Association meeting in Loyal that same evening. With the new appointment, the board looks ahead to continuing its work on behalf of Thorp residents with a full slate of members.
