With the Oriole varsity cross country season drawing to a close this year, it’s time to take a look back at some milestones and progress achieved. Several runners took a season best at Athens Sept. 29, reflect ing progress from the start of competition earlier this year.
Starting out with the girls cross country bracket, freshman Jennifer Boyea made a season record and personal best at Athens Sept. 29, coming away with 28:58.2 in the 5,000 meter and cutting just over three and a half minutes off her time three weeks earlier at the Stanley-Boyd Invitational.
For sophomore Adyson Gustafson, meanwhile, her time of 22:43.1 at Athens cut just under three minutes from her time at the Stanley-Boyd Invitational Sept. 8 and also marked both a season and personal best.
Not her best overall but a season record, senior Alexa Liszewski cut two minutes and seven seconds from her time just 21 days earlier, coming out to finish at Athens with 24:45.9, after previously cut ting a minute from her Stanley-Boyd performance at Marshfield Sept. 16, where Liszewski finshed with a time of 25:50 compared to 26:52.4 at the Stanley- Boyd Invitational.
As to senior Janelle Schesel, she cut just over one minute twenty nine seconds over the course of September in the 5,000 meter, finishing at 21:57.2 at Athens compared to 23:26.3 at the Sept. 8 Stanley- Boyd Invitational.
Switching to the boys running, Breckin Burzynski shaved off just under 40 seconds in the course of September when comparing his finish at Athens with that at the Stanley-Boyd Invitational, while Zach Haas improved by 44.5 seconds between the Stanley Invitational and Athens some three weeks later.
Freshman Eli Lilla cut just under five and a half minutes off his time in the 5,000 meter, finishing at Athens with a time of 26:53.4 compared to 32:31.2 Sept. 8.
Coming in next on the roster, senior Chris Mari- on took a season record at Marshfield Sept. 16, run – ning 25:13/9 in the 5,000 meter. Junior Lukas Milas, meanwhile, finshed roughly equal to before shaving two seconds off his time when comparing Athens to before, finishing the latter with a time of 19:38.0 Senior Dale Sayles took a personal and season record at Athens, finishing at Athens with a time of 21:21.9 Senior Nic Schmelzer, meanwhile, finsihed two minutes and 36 seconds better at Athens than earlier in the month, coming out with a time of 22:03.1 Sept. 29.
Junior Vaughn Schneider took a personal best and season record at Athens with 23:26.3, while sopho- more Candin Yeager finished at the Stanley-Boyd In –
vitational with a time of 22:19.4.
