by Joseph Back Once the sale is final, Debbie’s on Broadway will be “We picked the site for a number of reasons,” soon open for Valentine’s Day weekend, beginning with Frito be new co-owner Debbie Haas said of why she and day night on February 12th, with deep fried or broiled husband Chad chose to purchase Deano’s Big Ten Pub, fish alongside shrimp or burgers. Specials on the 13th to be known after February 8 as ‘Debbie’s on Broad- and 14th over Valentine’s Day weekend will be the same way.’ Among the reasons, Haas shared, was its “good for Saturday and Sunday, with beef tips over mashed posize,” location, and the fact that “everything we need is tatoes with a side of carrots starting at 4pm and a special already there,” she said. “We’ll be adding new items weekly until the menu is exactly the way we want it,” Debbie shared of the couples’ plans. “It should take us about a month to get it set the way we want it, so please be patient with us.” Such are the opening details. What about the more general details once everything gets off the ground?

“We want it to be family-oriented with a somewhat supper club feel, while providing a home-cooked meal,” Haas said. Given that Debbie Haas graduated from Stanley-Boyd as Debbie Derks in 2004 (her husband Chad is a Class of 2002 S-B alum), and as the Derks family is in the beef business, “we decided we’re going to show you what those steaks taste like,” she said. “We’ll have a few new beef entrees along with a couple chicken entrees as well. We’ll begin with the bar opening at 4 pm Wednesday through Friday and serving food beginning at 4:30 pm until 9:00p.m.,” Haas said. Saturdays and Sundays will see Debbie’s on Broadway open from 11am to 9 pm. “We’re excited to show we won’t disappoint,” Haas shared of ‘Debbie’s on Broadway.’ The Haas will be taking over from Dean Tinjum, who shared some thoughts with us and let mysteries be known. In the first place, why ‘Deano’s Big Ten Pub?’ “Because I’m a big Badgers fan,” the Class of 1978 S-B graduate, long-time restaurant owner and ribs master cook said. Asked of highlights over the past 28 years since first opening in April 1993, Tinjum said that “some of the highlights would be Badger Rose Bowl parties, Packer Super Bowl parties, and my rib fest,” he said. “We’ve been known for our pizzas and our ribs.”

Also on the list of highlights, meanwhile, were football bus trips to Madison and for high school football state championships. “Back the Blue” was the restaurant’s last big event. “And then of course if the Packers make it to the Superbowl, that will be the last big party,” he said prior to Sunday’s game in which the Packers did not make it to the Superbowl, being overcome by Tampa Bay instead. Just because the Packers didn’t win this time, however, is no reason they can’t win the next. When that day comes, Debbie’s on Broadway will ready to host.
