THE LIBRARY

BY D.R. MOON LIBRARY DIRECTOR ELIZABETH MINIATT

Happy spring Stanley community and welcome back to our monthly library column. Here you'll find information about the latest happenings at your library. The library board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 5PM in the lower level of the library. The meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. If you are unable to make it to the meeting, you can find the news and updates I share with the board each month here.

Thank you for your support of our library sale last month! We were able to clean out a lot of our storage and shelves and sent items to good homes. We appreciate the community support for our library sale, and we hope to see you again next year for our spring cleaning sale.

A monthly library fact, taken from our 2021 statistics: we had 9,084 wireless sessions logged last year. A wireless session is logged when someone connects to our public Wi-Fi. Of the total wireless sessions logged, nearly 30% were during our closed hours. We don’t turn off our Wi-Fi when we are closed so that people can still access the internet if they need to. If you see cars parked around the library when we aren’t open, it’s probably just people using the Wi-Fi!

We recently received a seed donation from High Mowing Organic Seeds and Gurney’s for our seed library! Come check out the new varieties we have for the community, including peppers, tomatoes, beans, herbs, flowers, and much more. There has been some interest in having a community garden this year at the library in memory of our beloved children’s librarian Peggy Dalberto who loved to garden.

Talk to library staff if you would like to be involved.

We have a new Creative Writer’s Guild start- ing this month just for teens! The first meeting will be April 21st, at 4PM. In other programs news, storytime is on April 21st at 10:30AM, Crafting Club is the 27th at 2:30PM, and the adult Creative Writer’s Guild is the 26th at 2PM. We also have Just Create It on the 19th and Girls Who Code Clubs on the 28th. All are welcome; please make sure to register before attending. Finally, the book club is currently reading The Book Thief and planning to meet May 5th. Check out our website, or pick up a calendar from the library, for the full details on current programs.

Mark your calendars for Free Comic Book Day on May 7th, the first Saturday in May! Stop by the library between 10AM-1PM on May 7th to pick up a free comic book, while supplies last. The comics are for all ages and everyone is welcome!

The library is open for you Monday through Friday from 10AM-6PM. Come in any time to use the computers, find a book or movie, bor row a Wi-Fi hotspot or iPad, or use our printer to fax, scan, and copy. Forms for both state and federal taxes, as well as instructions, are available at the library to be picked up or printed free of charge during our open hours. We are still offering curbside pick-up to those who wish to use that option and home delivery for the elderly and home-bound. Please note the library will be closed this week on Friday, April 15th, for the holiday weekend. Have a happy Easter!
