No Grand Opening during COVID

If you need a job, the Dollar General store which is now entering its final stages of construction on South Broadway could use you, with applications available at www.dollargeneral. com/careers. Dollar General public relations spokeswoman Crystal Ghassemi had more to say when reached for comment.

“We are currently in our final construction phase for a new store in Stanley, which we anticipate to open within the next month based on our current timeline,” she said last week via email. “Please note we are currently not hosting ‘grand opening’ celebrations amid COVID.”

The store property on South Broadway at Industrial Drive was previously owned by Stanley Truck Sales and used as a used car lot, the local firm later selling the South Broadway property and moving its center of operations from 1000 Dahl Street to 515 North Broadway. The construction of Dollar General on South Broadway began shortly thereafter. Founded in 1939, the stated mission of Dollar General stores is to SERVE OTHERS, as Ghassemi made known in her email.

“Dollar General is deeply involved in the communities it serves,” she said. “Our customers are at the center of all that we do.” Asked as to why the firm chose Stanley for a store site, Ghassemi said in part that, “we take a number of factors into consideration, carefully evaluating each potential new store location to ensure we can continue to meet our customer’s price, value and selection needs. We further strive to provide convenience for customers who may not have affordable nearby retail options.”

Saying that the store in Stanley would employ between 6 to 10 people, Ghassemi went on to list a variety of products sold by the store including Clorox, Kimberly-Clark, General Mills and even Hanes, among others. Ghassemi also mentioned that Dollar General awarded grant money each year through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for use by “non-profit organizations, schools and libraries within a 15mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center to support adult, family, summer and youth literacy programs.”
