The D.R. Moon Memorial Library is set to kick off its annual summer program, Color Our World, beginning June 2 and running through August 7. The program will feature weekly events and activities designed for children and families, held every Thursday—excluding July 3.
Due to future construction at the library, all Color Our World activities will take place at the Stanley Fire Station this year. The program will open with a crowd-favorite event, Rad Zoo, on June 3, which will include live reptiles and amphibians for an up-close educational experience.
Library staff encourage families to join in the fun and stay engaged throughout the summer. More details, including the full event schedule, can be found at stanleylibrary.org.
At a special meeting on May 23, the Stanley City Council awarded the bid for the D.R. Moon Memorial Library’s asbestos and lead abatement project to Lane’s Brothers, Inc., doing business as Asbestos Removal Services, for $18,600. As part of the $4.1 million grant the library received through the state’s Flexible Facilities Grant program, the City is typically required to solicit and consider multiple bids for contracted work. However, in this case, only one bid was submitted for the abatement project. Although only one bid was received, Mayor Mike Henke explained that the City obtained a waiver from the state allowing them to move forward with a single bid.
