Driver in bus crash had no insurance, passenger faces long road to recovery from October 1 accident

The family of Kevin Newill injured in a car vs. bus crash on Highway X at G between Stanley and Boyd has set up a Go Fund Me page to help with ongoning expenses, as Newill remains in the CCU (Critical Care Unit) of a local hospital.

His family is from Pennsylvania. Mom Barbara filled in some of the details surrounding Newill’s injuries and needs going forward after he was injured in a car accident October 1 between Stanley and Boyd on County X.

“Hi, my name is Barbara Newill. My son, Kevin, was in a horrific automobile accident on Friday October 1st,” the page description relates. Then listing a series of injuries including a punctured lung, broken pelvis, and several broken ribs along with a broken sternum, the Go Fund Me page seeks help with ongoing medical expenses as Kevin starts his long road to recovery. “He will be in the hospital a long time,” the page states, with family making the 1700-mile round trip to see him from Pennsylvania. The Go Fund Me site address for readers who may be interested in helping Kevin out on the way to recovery from his many different injuries suffered as a result of the crash is https://www.gofundme. com/f/m9aaht-help-for-kevin.

As of Monday morning the page had raised just $940 of a $50,000 goal. The driver had no insurance nor did his parents according to the Go Fund Me page, meaning that Newill is stuck with expenses as he convalesces and makes progess towards recovery.

“Whatever help we can get for Kevin would be awesome, his mother Barbara related of the way forward, with both medical bills and physical therapy in store.

As to the reported driver, a citation filed October 7 on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website for a violation October 1 (the day of the crash) lists 26-year-old Bryce James Winchell of Eau Claire as charged with violating 344.62(1) of the Wisconsin statutes, operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Family and friends of Newill at the crash site Monday October 4 stated that “Bryce Winchell” was the driver of the vehicle involved in the car vs. bus crash.

Though a court appearance is not mandatory for the charge of operating a motor vehicle without insurance, Winchell does face a fine for the alleged infraction, or just over $200.

In the meantime, Kevin Newill could use a few donations to help with medical and other costs. The address to donate, once again, is https://www.gofundme.com/f/m9aaht-help-forkevin
