Event to benefit local fire response and equipment needs, will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
National Fire Prevention week is here on Sunday, and doing its part to help once again will be Martino’s Restaurants, holding a Fire Prevention and Pizza Fundraiser Saturday Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with 100 percent of all sales from the fundraiser going to support the Stanley and Boyd-Edson- Delmar Fire Departments. All orders are single topping for the day, with customers also able to purchase a card good for a single topping pizza at a later date, with credit going to the local fire departments. A large single topping will be $17, while a small will be $11.
As in years past the pizzas will be prepared, cooked, and served by local fire depart ment personnel, with tours of the Stanley Fire Department’s Ladder Truck as well as the Boyd-Edson-Delmar Ambulance. Boyd-Edson-Delmar (B-E-D) Fire Chief Ron Patten shared thoughts on the fundraiser and its impact.
“We appreciated every year what Ron Haas does for us,” Patten said of the Martino’s Restaurante owner who puts on the annual fundraiser. “We would probably have trouble purchasing certain equipment without the help we get there.” As to the last purchase, the department had saved for three years for new Jaws of Life that cost “about $33,000,” with fundraiser proceeds paying roughly $15,000 of this. Within the 12 months since their purchase, the department had even used them, for cutting out a crash victim who might not have made it without the equipment. Just what to use this year’s proceeds towards in terms of fire department needs would be discussed Oct. 10, Patten said.
“The guys are talking over what they want to do,” the B-E-D Fire Chief said of what to put the proceeds towards. Each fundraiser splits the proceeds equally between B-E-D and Stanley Fire, with Stanley Fire Chief Korey Hagenson echoing Patten’s gratitude for the annual fundraiser and sharing what the Stanley Department planned to do with its share of event proceeds.
“Everything that we make from it is going towards a new TNT set of Jaws of Life,” Hagenson said.
Once again, the Fire Prevention and Pizza Fundraiser at Martino’s is Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
