Local resident and volunteer firefighter Amy O’Donnell recently raised $2,128 this spring toward the purchase of new extrication equipment for the Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Department. The fundraiser put on through a Pampered Chef program in which O’Donnell donated 15 percent of sales toward the equipment purchase was undertaken on account of the cancelled chicken feed this year, with some people donating via check. O’Donnell said that the new equipment was a matter of necessity, rather than want.
“Right now we’re using a generator-powered set,” she related of the current life-saving apparatus, saying that this could be hard to haul down an embankment. Once purchased, the new set will be entirely battery powered, and was talked about with admiration by at least one village official at a prior board meeting, said official also involved with the fire department and getting a chance to test out the equipment to be purchased.
O’Donnell shared in addition that the Boyd Clerk’s Office consisting of Sandi Isaacs and Jayne Geist had made it known that donations could be sent to the village hall for the fire department. O’Donnell’s recent contribution will go a long way toward the purchase.
