Fitzsimmons, Hendrickson claim Stanley seats

The City of Stanley has a new mayor, but we all knew that.

Al Haas was officially elected mayor last Tuesday. Results were finally tabulated Monday evening, and local clerks can finally close the books on that controversial Spring Election.

There were some contested seats on the Stanley City Council.

In Ward 1, Mark Fitzsimmons won a seat, defeating Jessie Salcido by a 133-22 margin.

In Ward 2, incumbent James Schultze was defeated by challenger Kevin Hendrickson 56-35.

Wards three and four-eight had a scattering of write-in votes, and no one had been offered the seat as of press time.

In the Village of Boyd, winning the two trustee seats were Casey Dorn with 94 votes and Bob Geist with 97.

In the Stanley-Boyd School District election, Denise Hoffstatter captured the Area 2 seat with 797 votes. She will represent Colburn and Delmar on the board.

Bob Geist won in Area 3 with 832 votes. He is a current board member and represents the Village of Boyd.

In Area 4 – the City of Stanley seat – Toni Seidl won with 696 votes. Mike Henke, the incumbent, received 220 votes, but resigned his seat in February.

In the referendum votes, the Marsy’s Law referendum to give more rights to victims of crime won by a 12,087-3,784 margin.

The Chippewa Valley Technical College Referendum passed district-wide, and it won in Chippewa County 9,025-6,881.

In the Presidential Primary, for the Democrat seat Joe Biden defeated Bernie Sanders – who has already left the race – 6,068 -2,126. In the Republican race, Donald Trump won Chippewa County with 7,793 votes.

In the race for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice, Democrat Jill J. Karofsky won statewide but lost to Republican Daniel Kelly in Chippewa County, 8,314-8,080.

In the race for Chippewa County Branch 3 Circuit Court Judge, Benjamin Lane defeated Sharon Gibbs McIlquham by an 8,837-6,773 margin.

In local Chippewa County Board races: Glenn Sikorski, District 2 (includes Colburn) was unopposed with 775 votes.

Ton Thornton, District 5 (Delmar and Stanley) was unopposed with 579 votes.

James Mickelson, District 8 (Includes Edson and Boyd) was unopposed with 796 votes.
