Stanley’s football season is over for this year, after the lower-ranked Orioles lost 47 – 8 against Aquinas as the team ranked number one in the Conference. Head coach Jeff Koenig took things in stride.
“Our seniors are an exciting group to coach,” he said as the Oriole’s head coach with many assistants. “They showed great resilience throughout the year as we navigated a lot of adversity. Our team was a fun group to coach this year,” he said.
The season-ending loss against Aquinas caps a 7-4 record for the current season which saw many ups and downs, including an upset win in the final four seconds against Mondovi, certainly fun to watch if nothing else.
Also among the season’s wins were a blowout against Cadott to open the fall, a loss by forfeit to Fall Creek as the number of eligible players briefly dipped below safe play levels, and a 37-0 win over the Neillsville/Granton Warriors at that school’s homecoming.
It just goes to show you can’t win all the time–but there’s always next season to rise again.
For the present, basketball is coming.
