A gas line strike on First Avenue last week sparked excitement after workers struck a two inch gas line just west of the bus garage.
Called in Tuesday morning at 11:31 a.m. for 451 East First Avenue, the strike caused a shelter in place order for Meadowbrook Estates and nearby Stanley-Boyd Schools, where residents and students were told to shelter in place. Firefighters setting up a road block with aid from the Stanley Police Department, , while WE Energies worked to get things under control.
“WE Energies came with four or five people,” Stanley Fire Chief Ron Patten said, saying they had attempted to crush the line down until it could be repaired. This caused damage resulting in more work, with WE Energies staying on site until later in the night. Stanley Fire stayed on site on site until 1 p.m., with one person checked by ambulance and another transported to the hospital after getting sick from natural gas.
“Sure grateful for the police to come down,” Patten said of traffic control.
