Sportsmen’s Lodge and Silver Dollar owner Casey Reininger would like to set the record straight.
“As of now, there is an interested party,
however, there have been no offers, and there are no pending offers, nor have there been any appraisals or inspections done on the property,” he said of rumors that the Sportsmen’s Lodge on Koser Avenue in Thorp township was being sold, after comments made during a recent board meeting of the Town of Thorp showed up in the local newspaper, on page three of the December 19, 2019 issue titled ‘Town of Thorp officially has 9 bridges now,’ and started causing issues with phone calls from the public. More specifically, the comments touched on in the December 19th piece were to the effect that the Sportsmen’s Lodge had been bought and would be turned into a clothing store, with a side reference to an unspecified “business in Reseburg township,” otherwise known as The Silver Dollar. This didn’t sit well with Reininger.
“At this point it’s going to affect both of my businesses if this isn’t clarified,” he told the newspaper via telephone on the fallout from the story. A statement in the December 19th article stating that the Stanley Republican had been unable to confirm either the sale of the Sportsmen’s Lodge or the reportedly pending sale “of a business in Reseburg township”— aka “The Silver Dollar”—was ultimately based on a review of publicly listed Wisconsin real estate transfers posted online, where no such real estate transactions could be found. Although Reininger acknowledged that he was in the process of buying The Silver Dollar located in Reseburg township, “The Silver Dollar is a restaurant and will remain a restaurant, nothing is changing whatsoever,” he said, seeking to reassure local residents who may be concerned that the Sportsmen’s Lodge would be relocating once The Silver Dollar had been officially taken over as of last week January 2nd. “It’s one thing when it’s a rumor, and another when it’s in the newspaper,” Reininger said. “People are supposed to believe what’s in the paper, and I don’t want to start calling the Stanley Republican ‘fake news.’”
