Team Aubree Softball Tournament coming August 13-15

“It’s a good night. They’re having fun.” This was the observation of at least one adult in attendance last Thursday at Boyd’s Lotz Park. No score, just “they’re having fun.”

With boys and girls both represented on the many different teams of legendary appellation, among the games Thursday were two matches, a face-off between the Giants (in red and white) and the Packers (in green and gold), along with one between the Brewers (in blue and gold) and the Bucks ( in teal and black).

In the first place it took just two strikes to strike out rather than three, while the score stood 5 -1 in the bottom of the third with the Giants ahead, Regie Benson making the announcements from the announcer’s booth. Bob Geist played umpire. so how’d it play out?

“Grifffin’s up to bat with Josiah on deck and Logan in the hole,” Benson announced the batting lineup for the Packers part way through the game. With Griffin getting a hit low to the ground, the ball was scooped up by second base with a throw to first, for the out. While pop-ups were most in danger of being caught for the out, low to the ground hits weren’t without peril. Griffin returned to the dugout and then it was time for the next round.

Looking ahead to the postseason, the first ever Team Aubree Softball tournament will take place at Lotz park from August 13 through the 15th, following an end of regular season tournament to play out from August 5 through the 8th.

Back at Lotz Park last Thursday, meanwhile, the Packers and Giants game ended, with halogens turning on toward dusk, the spreading pink shadow edge off on the horizon, heralding the night to come.

At Lotz Park, the game continued on, as the Brewers and the Bucks together, aimed for the win.
