Win some, lose some. That about sums up the week in Oriole girls basketball, which saw the Lady Orioles fall 60 – 30 to Mc-Donell Central before defeating Glenwood City the following day 64 – 30. The game results bring the Lady Orioles record thus far to 1 -2 in season play, with a game against Cadott after press time Dec. 6.
Starting at the tipoff Friday the ball went to the Orioles, before a turnaround and quick scoring by McDonell led to a lead for the Chippewa Falls private school. A two-pointer by the Orioles Tina Benson attempted to even things somewhat, with the score at half leaving a double digit deficit to make up for the Orioles. Taking a couple time outs to regroup, Coach Alison Becker could be heard telling her players they needed to play harder, and they delivered.
Coming back after the half, a solid attempt by the team to close the gap resulted in points on the board, while McDonell was able to maintain and slightly grow their lead through a series of three pointers, the game ending 60-30 in the Bulldog’s favor.
Not content to leave the score result against McDonell, the Orioles went on to defeat Glenwood City 64 – 30 Saturday, Dec. 3 at Colfax. The Orioles next play Thorp at Thorp High School on Friday, Dec. 9. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
