Coming up on Saturday, September 17, the Hill House, at the intersection of Hwy’s X and D in Boyd, will host the 1st Annual Chicken & Chrome fundraiser from 11 am to 4 pm, with proceeds going toward the Jon Kott Mid-State Truck Service Memorial Scholarship in memory of Jonathan Kott.
Jon was just 23 years old when he passed away on De- cember 11, 2021 of natural causes. At the time of his death, Jon worked as a diesel technician for Mid-State Truck Service in Chippewa Falls. According to Brad Westrich, Service Manager for Mid-State Truck Service, Jon’s family and his co-workers wanted to do something to honor and remember Jon. He had been employed there for about four and a half years at the time of his death, and they knew Jon would approve of the fundraiser as a way to provide the same opportunities he had by financially helping out deserving students. Many of Jon’s co-workers went to Chippewa Valley Technical College with Jon in the Diesel Technician program.
The name, Chicken & Chrome, depicts what the day will hold. There will be charcoal chicken dinners, the Chicken part, and a Car & Motorcycle show, the Chrome part. Registrants for the Car & Motorcycle show must preregister by 10:30 that morning and there is a $10 registration fee. Contact the Hill House at 715-667-3434 for information and to register. There will be trophies and cash prizes awarded for Kid’s Choice, Best Paint, Best Engine and Best in Show for both the car and the motorcycle categories.
LaGrander’s Cheese is donating 400 lbs of the cheese curds and the cheese curd trailer from the Stanley Rodeo will also be on hand for deep frying. There will be a 50/50 drawing plus raffles for items from various donors.
There are two Chippewa Valley Technical College scholarships available from Mid-State Truck Service. The first is a $1500 scholarship available to students entering their second year in the Diesel Truck Technician program, and the other is a $1000 scholarship for students entering their second year in the Automotive Maintenance Technician or Automotive Collision Repair and Refinish Technician programs. To apply for the scholarships, students should contact Chippewa Valley Technical College.
Jon was the son of Jim and Cindy (Ederer) Kott. Jim continues to work for Mid-State Truck Service as a diesel technician. Sponsors and donors for the event include Hill House, Ben & Mindy Miland, LaGrander’s Dairy, Stanley Bar & Bowl, Derks Farms Beef, Huron Tavern, Buzzy & Cindy Burzynski, Split Rock Excavating LLC, Herb Carlson & Sons LLC, Mid-State Truck Service Inc, Wissota Transport LLC, Mac Tools and Jeremy Robinson.
Please mark your calendars to attend and support this great fundraiser, and to honor and remember a very highly respected young man.
