History museum opens in June

The Stanley Area Historical Society is happy to announce the opening of its museum for the 2026 season. The 2026 season begins the weekend of June 6 and 7. The museum will be open weekends through Sunday, October 4. Visitors are welcome on Saturdays and Sundays from 1- 4 p.m., with tours available up until 3:30 p.m. Other openings are by chance on Tuesdays. To arrange a tour for a group or for more information call 715-644-5492 or 715-644-5880. There is no admission charge and visitors are able to donate as they wish. The museum features exhibits and displays highlighting local history, a 1906 Cadillac, past farming, logging, early businesses, an early1900's kitchen, and much more.
The community is invited to mark their calendar for the following special programs. On opening weekend Sunday, June 7, there will be a String Musical Recital featuring violin and cello. On Sunday, August 16, there will be a presentation on the Krueger shootout with the U. S. Government at Withee. The Krueger's were a German family whose sons refused to join the war against Germany. On September 20, there will be a Polish Heritage Day featuring Polish foods, music and a speaker. Museum Director Betty Plombon, will do her final Klu Klux Klan operation in Stanley on Sunday, October 4. Each of the events except the Polish Heritage Day will begin at 1:30 p.m. Polish Heritage Day will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a potluck meal of Polish foods.
The mission of the Stanley Area Historical Society is to preserve the history of the area through the collection of artifacts and educate the public with displays/exhibits and programs. The local museum has over 12,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space which allows the areas history to be exhibited by the extensive use of photographs and artifacts throughout the museum. The museum's extensive collections exist to provide engaging experiences for individuals, families, school groups, and history buffs of all ages.
With the road construction around the museum completed, come explore and learn more about local history. Remember the museum has a nice selection of local history books and other items that make wonderful gifts for friends and relatives.
