Katherine ‘Winky’ (Plombon) Wahr 1945 – 2022

Katherine (Winky) Wahr passed away peacefully on August 12, 2022.

Winky and her twin broth- er Keith (Butch) were born on November 12, 1945, to the late Severyn and Genevieve (Rivers) Plombon in Stanley, WI. Winky and Butch were quite the dynamic duo and kept their older brothers Bill and Severyn on their toes while growing up over the Plombon Funeral Home.

Winky started her college education at Mount Mary College and later graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Speech Communication. Everyone knows Winky loved to talk, but you probably didn’t know she actually studied it in college.

After college she moved to Green Bay, WI and worked at the HC Prange Company in human resources. While there she was set up on a date with the only other single person in the ovce and that ended up being the love of her life, Jack Wahr. They were married on September 12, 1970 and lived in Green Bay and De Pere for the next 50 years.

Over that time Jack and Wink made countless friendships that were truly special to them. It was divcult for Jack and Winky to go anywhere in town where someone did not recognize her and would want to chat. It is a true testament to the kindness she had in her heart for everyone.

After Big Jack passed away in 2019, Winky moved to Elmhurst, IL where an entirely new community got to experience the joy Winky brought to every situation.

Even while battling Alzheimer’s during a pandemic, she never lost that special twinkle in her eye and kept everyone laughing and smiling until the very end.

Winky is survived by her two sons, John (Kristine Knighton) of Charlotte, NC, and Jeu (Holly Moore) of Elmhurst, IL and her loving grandchildren Erik, Kath erine, Mallory, Jack, and Emma.

She was preceded in death by her brothers William and Severyn.

Our family would especially like to recognize the Tom and Denise Balzola family. They have truly been a blessing; we appreciate the friendship, love, and support they have provided to our family over the years.

Family and friends may visit at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Street, Elmhurst IL, on Saturday, August 20, from 1:00pm until 3:00pm with a Prayer Service at 3:00pm.

There will also be a celebration of life in Green Bay on Saturday November 5th.

Details will be sent out once finalized.
