Lady Orioles secure 6-1 win over Thunder at Stoddard Friday in Osseo-Fairchild Friday

Taking to the road this past week, the Lady Orioles softball team took the Thunder home from Osseo-Fairchild, the final score of their away game there 6 - 1.

With Stanley getting an early lead 4 -1 in the first, they held their ground, keeping Osseo-Fairchild from scoring any more runs while scoring two more of their own in the top of the sixth inning. Orioles head softball coach Andrea Mahr shared more on how the week had gone after the dust settled.

“It was a great week for Stanley-Boyd Softball, adding 5 wins to our record and a 1-run loss to the top team in the conference, Fall Creek,” she said. “Monday against Fall Creek, we beat ourselves. Fall Creek got on and scored early in the first three innings due to our errors. The errors we made were very atypical and unexpected. We battled back and if we could have had one more inning, that game would have been ours. It was a tough loss because we only fell short by 1 run and most of Fall Creek's runs were unearned.”

Turning it around on Tuesday with a double header against Thorp, the Orioles took away two wins, with mention going to Abby Reynolds, Tina Benson, and Emily Brenner.

“Abby Reynolds pitched a great game,” Mahr said of the first contest with Thorp. “Tina Benson had a sharp eye at the plate, getting walked 3 times and Emily Brenner secured the win for us with a home run and 2 RBIs. “

Game two against Thorp we really came out on top. At the plate we had 17 hits and were really timing out their pitcher. Tina Benson went 4-5, Bailey Sikora, Emme Felmlee and Emily Brenner went 2 for 3.”

Later heading to Osseo-Fairchild, the Orioles took another win, a sweet victory after having lost by one run to Osseo-Fairchild earlier in the season. Several players came in for special mention in the Osseo-Fairchild rematch.

“Bailey Sikora and Emme Felmlee went 3 for 4 and the plate and Mallory Eslinger had two RBI’s,” Mahr said. “I was really proud of their performance - they seemed confident all game and it showed both on defense and at the plate!”

With Saturday taking the Lady Oriole to games against Flambeau and Turtle Lake/Clayton, the Orioles added two more wins to their season record. Coming in for special mention were Bailey Sikora and Lauren Potaczek, while Emily Brenner took a home run in each game, bringing her season total to 7.

Bailey Sikora was 6 for 6 on the day!” Mahr said. “Lauren Potaczek was 3 for 3 against Turtle Lake. Emily Brenner had a home run in each game, putting her at 7 for the season.

“I'm extremely proud of this group of girls. We are peaking at the right time! We got the 5 seed in our bracket and got a first-round bye. We will take on Neillsville Tuesday, May 23rd. “
