The Stanley-Boyd Legion baseball season is over for this year, closing out 2-5 against Cadott July 25. Coach Jake Tiry shared his thoughts on how things had gone.
“Our final record was 3-5, which for our first year was a great start,” he said of the season. “What I learned the most is kids do want to play and we will have enough kids to play. Next year, our plan is to play in a couple tournaments and have a tournament team along with a developmental team in order to have the kids get better for the high school season. I had 23 kids total that played throughout the season averaging 12 kids per game for most games. I saw lots of improvement and growth in both their skills and leadership. Eli Hazuga matured into a full-fledged leader of the team and I wish him the best in college baseball. (Eli will be playing at Vermillion) JJ Heller grew leaps and bounds from last year and was very willing to help the younger players learn the nuances of the game. (JJ will be playing at UW-River Falls) Ethan Sowieja, became calm and steady and I finally saw the potential to be a great baseball player in him. (Ethan will be playing at Century College in the cities) Hayden Gustafson helped out when he could and so did Logan Burzynski. Each of these young men will be missed as their leadership was huge throughout the season. Our next up leaders are ready to take the lead, Dawson Ewer, Alex Williams, Trent Kristoph, Storm Tiry, and Jackson Gindt and their growth will be instrumental in how good our varsity baseball team does in the spring. Koebin Wundrow, London Mertens, Chase Olichwier, Oliver Hatfield, and Grant Dusick are key players that have formed very good roles on the team and our up and comers of Carter Weltzin, Devon Parker, Dayne Trunkel, Easton Holmes and Landon Ewer are important in the future development of the team. Special thanks to Kaden Parker, who filled in, in one game for us when we were short, he did outstanding and I can’t wait to have him on the roster for a full year. and also thank you to Parker Krizan for helping to coach when he wasn’t busy.”
