Take a walk with your kids or grandkids in downtown Stanley during September and enjoy the inspiring and heartwarming children’s story that will unfold.
As part of the campaign to raise funds to expand and restore the D.R. Moon Memorial Library, the library is sponsoring a Storywalk Adventure along Broadway this month. Downtown merchants have teamed up with the library to make this imaginative and fun project come to life.
“The Storywalk provides a creative way for children and adults to enjoy reading and spend time outdoors,” said Elizabeth Miniatt, library director. “Fifteen businesses have partnered with us to help tell this year’s story of ‘Someone Builds the Dream.’ We hope everyone will join in the fun.”
Throughout September, each business will display pages from the thought-provoking book. Families can pick up a free Storywalk Adventure Map at the library and participating businesses to follow the story and complete the map. Then, they can take the completed map to the library for a special prize.
The library is in the midst of a campaign to preserve and expand the current 123-year-old library. The project will add much needed resources, expand seating, provide more accessibility, add technology, and provide flexible community gathering spaces.
“The expansion will build on our function as a community asset and allow us to provide more programming and serve the needs of everyone from preschoolers to senior citizens for generations to come,” Miniatt said.
