Meeting on Monday, January 11, the Stanley Lions held a busy meeting. In the absence of President Jerry Dirkes, Lion Dave Jankoski called the meeting to order at 6 pm. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Under Old Business, Lion Dave Winkler reported that this year the deer hides collected numbered 329, the same number as last year. Lions assisting Winkler this year were John Pozdell and Duane Booth. He thanked those helping with the project and all the hunters who donated hides this year. The donated hides are taken to Lion Bernie Stuttgen’s farm near Thorp where they are processed and then shipped to a dealer. Funds received from the hide sales go to support Lions Camp Rosholt, which serves individuals with handicaps and disabilities. Lion Winkler also reported on another successful Christmas Raffle and thanked all those who sold the tickets and those who purchased them. He noted that several changes will be considered next year. All drawings again took place at Bob Valk’s Barber Shop. Lion Duane Booth reported on the Spirit of Christmas gifts project that served 57 families in the Stanley/ Boyd area this year. This was down from the 75 families who received Christmas gifts last year. The gifts were due to the generosity of people throughout Chippewa County. Lions Duane Booth, Carl Edwardson, Jerry Dirkes, Norm Christianson, Ben Isenberger, Gary Krueger, Dave Jankoski and Larry Ciokiewicz helped with this project. The Stanley Fire Station was used as the distribution center. Support was again expressed for continuation of this project under the auspices of the Lions Club.
Under New Business, it was announced that the 27-E1 District Governor, Steve Jensen will make his annual visit to the local club on Monday, February 8. As a gift to the District Governor it was voted to make a $100 donation to a Lions project of his designation.
Lion Jankoski noted that the Wisconsin Lion Magazine carried a picture and article on the recent presentation of diabetes books to local schools and Stanley Library.
The next meeting of the Lions will be on February 8, at Deano’s and spouses and guests are welcome to the District Governor’s visitation. Lion Konrad Thorsen’s name was drawn for the attendance drawing but he was not in attendance.
