On Monday, November 9, the Stanley Lions held their monthly meeting at Deano’s. After dinner, the meeting was called to order by President Jerry Dirkes. Secretary and treasurer reports were accepted as presented. In old business, correspondence was read from the United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley, thanking the six Lions who assisted with the service project of repainting and cleaning the Early Childhood Learning Trail at Chapman Park and from the Chippewa County Spirit of Christmas for the $400 donation made by the Stanley Lions. Lion Dave Winkler reported that most of the Lions Christmas Raffle tickets had been sold and highlighted the yeoman's assistance from Joanne Walters, who sold 78 tickets this year. Lion Winkler also reported that the Lions deer hide collection had started at Express Mart and he had already taken 25 hides to Bernie Stuttgen’s at Thorp. The unseasonably warm weather has necessitated daily trips. To support the hide collection project, $60 was voted towards the purchase of salt that is needed to preserve the hides. Donors are reminded that the deer hide project helps support children and adults with disabilities, who attend the Wisconsin Lions Camp. The collection site is at Express Mart. Lion Duane Booth indicated the Spirit of Christmas gift distribution will be held on Saturday, December 19. All details have been covered and it is projected that the distribution will take place at the Stanley Fire Station at 11 am. All recipients will be asked to wear masks when coming for their gifts. President Dirkes reported that the October 19, Brat Supper at Sunset Homes served 34 individual meals. Six Lions boxed the meals and delivered them to the residents’ apartments because of COVID-19. A number of the tenants lamented that the bingo games that usually follow dinner could not be held this year. In new business, the Lions again voted to support the Stanley-Boyd Food Pantry with a $500 donation to be used for Christmas meat certificates. In other business, $300 was voted to the Stanley Correctional Institution's SCOPES Program (Stanley Correctional Outreach Program Equals Success). After discussion, $250 was also donated to the corpus of the Stanley Community Fund, that provides annual support to local programs. The Fund is held with the Community Foundation of Chippewa County and is open to anyone donating. Gifts can be sent to the CFCC, 404 ½ N. Bridge Street, PO Box153, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729. Donors should include a note that it is for the Stanley Community Fund and feel good that you are supporting a gift that keeps on giving each year. A donation to the Chippewa County Kids Day was tabled after Lion Jim Jones provided insight into the funding for this event. Lion Norm Christianson shared information on the local police departments “Help Handcuff Hunger” effort to provide Christmas meals for local individuals and families. Last year 29 meals were provided. The Lions voted to donate $100 to this effort.

The final new business item related to the forthcoming celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Stanley Lions Club. King Lion Dirkes reported that his contact with the District Governor indicated that the event would be scheduled for April 24, 2021 and the hope is to hold it at the new Stanley Community Building.

After a discussion on a date for the December Lions Meeting, it was decided to cancel the meeting, which usually serves as the Annual Christmas Party. With COVID -19 increasing in Chippewa County, it was felt to be a prudent decision. Lion Dean Boie’s name was drawn for the attendance drawing but he was not present to claim his winnings.
