The Stanley Lions had another picnic supper, and business meeting at Fandry Park on Monday, August 10. King Lion Jerry Dirkes welcomed and thanked the attendees for their presence. He then had Lion Norm Christianson introduce new member Jeff Lyp, who was welcomed to the club. Mary Dirkes attended as a guest and perspective member.

Secretary and Treasurer reports were presented by Lorena McLoone and Norman Christianson. In old business, President Dirkes reviewed the recent fundraisers held to replace some of the income lost by cancellation of this year’s Lions Watermelon Festival, due to COVID-19. The Brat and Pork Chop Sale held at IGA on July 24 was a success. A profit of $852 was realized from food sales and tips received. The Lions Thrift Sale held on August 6, 7, and 8, brought in a profit of around $1,548 so far with the sale continuing the weekend of August 14-15. The Cheese Curd Sale held on August 6, 7 and 8 netted the club $1,735. The cheese curd sale was done in conjunction with the Rodeo Committee on a 75/25 split. Several special notes related to the Lions Thrift Sale were that there were 18 donors of items. Lion Dirkes, Mary Dirkes and Edie Krueger were applauded for their work in conjunction with the sale. The president thanked everyone who worked the Brat, Pork Chop Sale, and the Cheese Curd Sales. He also noted and thanked Al Haas and Deb Karlen who also volunteered their time in helping with the Cheese Curd Sale. And finally, the Lions thank the community for their support of these fundraisers. These events helped the Lions make up for losses due to the cancellation of the Watermelon Festival.

In new business, a request from the police department for assistance to purchase a trail camera was discussed and supported by those present. There was an offer from a Lion that may provide the assistance requested. It was announced that the Boyd Lions will be having a drive -up carry-out chicken dinner sale on Sunday, August 23, from 11 am to 2 pm. The event will take place at Boyd Catering. Also discussed were possible future fundraisers including another brat sale and a possible one-day cheese curd sale.

Lion Jerry and Mary Dirkes were thanked for the meal preparation for the meeting’s dinner. The delicious menu consisted of pork chop and brat sandwiches, baked beans, cheesy potatoes and coleslaw, with apple torte and chocolate cake desserts.

It was announced that the next meeting will be held again at Fandry Park, weather permitting, on Monday, September 14. Lion Norm Christianson was the lucky winner of the attendance drawing and he was present to collect his winnings.
