Not to be forgotten for those keeping track of the “up and coming” Varsity and Junior Varsity baseball of the future, meanwhile, was boys Little League activity at Fandry Park, once the site of the old sawmill. With teams playing in both fields and fans milling about, the scene last weekend was one of fun, with t-ball and elementary baseball both in play.
Among the visiting teams was one from Athens, facing off Blue and White off against the Orange and Black, while over at the nearby former hot pond some turtle residents from Chapman could be seen on a log, perhaps looking for a view of the game (or else taking advantage of the warm sun to help regulate their body temperature, as turtles are cold-blooded). At any rate, it was a family day out this weekend, with coaches and others introducing of the younger generation to a sport they can play well into high school, and beyond.
If you do wander down to Fandry Park to watch the games this summer though, we advise against trying to bother the sunbathing turtles—they bite, and their beaks can snap minnows in half—just don’t do it!
