Lawn balloons show up after return from dinner
Donald and Linda Hakes got a pleasant surprise recently, when lawn baloons showed up on their front lawn in North Stanley. The occasion? Their 50th wedding anniversary.
“We were shocked,” Don shared of finding the lawn baloons out front on returning from dinner with one of their sons. The Hakes’ were married October 2, 1971 at Epiphany Lutheran in Stanley. Following their marriage they farmed for several years on Copenhaver Avenue in the Town of Worden, before moving into Stanley upon retirement. But while it took a while to make sense of the lawn ornaments, it was no surprise that word got out.
“Too small a town,” it was said when newspaper staff showed up on the front lawn with a camera. Maybe, or just small enough. Happy anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Hakes!
