Competing at Medford, Bloomer, Abbotsford, and Stanley over the past two week, the Oriole varsity track team had a busy schedule.
Starting with Medford results from April 23, the girls track team placed fifth, while many personal records were made.
Among these were Macie LaGrander jumping 15-1.5 in the long jump, while Addison Mahr shaved 30 seconds off her 3200 meter time. Also of note, Elena Trevino ran 6:06.66 in the 1600 meter.
Commenting on challenges at Medford, Orioles Head Coach Robert Seidl said that the weather was poor.
“This was a difficult meet to run in, especially in the sprints,” he said. “ It was cold and windy and as expected we didn’t have a lot of improvements.”
As for boys team results from Medford, they placed first out of 11 teams, with Madden Mahr jumping 20-4.5 in the long jump for a personal record while Lucas Walker ran a 2:02.48 in the 800 meter run. Commenting on the challenges to performance, Coach Seidl again returned to the role of the weather.
“Very cold and windy conditions,” he said of the boys team and challenges at Medford. “We ran well considering but did not have very many improvements.”
As for results at Bloomer April 25, the girls team placed fifth, with Macie LaGrander jumping 15’11” in the long jump, a personal record by almost a foot. “I think they can break it,” he said of the school record.Summing up the girls performance at Bloomer, Coach Seidl said the team was competitive.
“Two outstanding teams were at this meet, Fall Creek and Bloomer,” he said. “They are also conference rivals. We are short on numbers but we have been competitive in the events we enter into. Our times in the running events are improving but we still need to get more in our field athletes.”
As for the boys at Bloomer, they placed first out of nine teams, being undefeated on the 400 meter track. Lucas Walker ran his fastest time so far in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of 2:00.92, doing so after running the 1600 meters.
“He will have a few more opportunities to break the 2 minute barrier before Conference,” Coach Seidl said of the Stanley-Boyd senior.
Going on to sum up the boys performance at Bloomer, Seidl said the team was setting its goals high.
“We ran well against our conference rivals,” he said of the boys team. “We found out that Fall Creek can be beat after coming off last year’s stellar performance winning the State title. The boys are setting their goals high for a conference re-match.”
