When it comes to good food, Martino’s at 965 Pine Street has served the Stanley Country area with devotion for the past 16 years, after first opening for business during the summer of 2004. Named for Ron’s late father-in-law Martin Hatfield, the local Italian style restaurant includes the usual pizza and pasta menu options that one might expect at such a restaurant but goes beyond this as well. Have you heard about Martino’s sub sandwich choices?
Listed online in the menu offerings at www.martinospizzaplace. com are the Martino’s Club, Philly Steak, Chicken Ranch, Meatball, and BLT sandwich varieties. The Club sandwich includes “sliced ham, steak pieces and seasoned chicken breast, topped with onions and our special cheese blend,” the website relates. The Chicken Ranch option, meanwhile, has “seasoned chicken breast strips smothered in our creamy ranch dressing, topped with onions and a special cheese blend,” per the website. But what lunch or dinner would be complete without dessert? Martino’s has these as well.
Holding pride of place amongst the many desserts offered are Martino’s Famous Streussel’s, with “homemade light buttery crust topped with your choice of delicious toppings and drizzled with a creamy white frosting,” being available with “apple, lemon, strawberry, cherry, raspberry, blueberry, peanut butter M& M and cinnamon,” with the option to add cream cheese as well. For those not into streusel however there’s also the Seventh Heaven Chocolate Cake, Cookie Sundae, and “Gelato,” from the Italian for “chilled ice” or ice cream. So what is the restaurant’s ingredient philosophy?
“Get the best, not the cheapest,” Haas related as he said that all Martino’s cheeses are from Wisconsin and not just processed in the state, a loophole used by some to claim the “Made in Wisconsin” label—but not Martino’s. “I’m trying to do all I can to help the farmers,” Haas said of the locally sourced food ingredients. Closed just three days a year for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas respectively, the local Pine Street business has also hosted an annual fire department fundraiser in the past, donating all the sales (not just profits) from one day each Fall to the local fire departments. So when are Martino’s doors open?
“We’ve always kept it 11a.m. to 10 p.m.,” owner Ron Haas related of the restaurant’s open hours. And while there are currently no self-serve options due to present COVID-19 health regulations, visitors to Martino’s on Pine Street can still order a salad, including Garden and Antipasto options, and the dine-in and drive thru are both open as of the present. By maintaining the same hours seven days a week, it keeps hungry customers from having to guess just when the doors will be open.
