Memorial Day observances planned

Memorial Day is Monday, May 26, and observances are planned across the area.
The Stanley VFW Post 2711 and Legion Post 112 will hold a Memorial Day event at Soo Line Park Monday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. to which the public is invited. VFW Commander Brandon Heifner will speak.
“On Memorial Day we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, whose who sacrificed their life, in service to our country,” Heifner said. “It is because of their sacrifice that we have the opportunities we have and get to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy and all too often take for granted.”
As for cemetery observances, both the VFW and Legion will hold observances at area cemeteries. Stanley Victory Legion Post 112 Bruce Wozniak said there will be Memorial Day observances at 9:00 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Stanley was well as 9:45 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, located north of town on County Highway H. The VFW will team up with area Boy Scouts to place flags at the cemetery on Pine Street.
Boyd Legion Commander Gerry Gully shared plans for Memorial Day observances at Boyd.
“We’re going to meet at the Legion Hall at 10 a.m.,” he said of Walter Nelson Legion Post 326. From there, Post 326 will make visits to area cemeteries in the morning, according to the following schedule:
10:30 a.m. at St. Peters Cemetery in Wilson
10:45 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Edson
11:00 a.m. Sacred Heart Cemetery in Edson
11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Boyd
11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Boyd
