Midyear AGR Report in for Stanley-Boyd

The mid-year AGR Progress Report is in for Stanley-Boyd.
Presented Monday, Feb. 23 by Stanley-Boyd Elementary School Principal Dean Lew, the state mandated report under Chapter 118.44 of the state statutes seeks to identify gaps in student achievement, called the Achievement Gap Reduction or AGR report for short. The AGR Report uses a variety of measures to assess math and language skills for students in kindergarten through third grade, with students assessed on everything from sound and letter awareness to reading and expected grade level math skills.
“Every year we have to complete the document with the state,” Lew told the school board Monday. “
Measured against a ‘baseline’ score from the beginning of the year, So what are the scores for Stanley-Boyd?
“The numbers are rather low at the start of the year,” Lew said. “But then if you come all the way over to this column you see what we have done so far, and we have made some nice gains throughout the year. We still have work to do, but we’re very pleased with the numbers that we have.”

Starting with kindergarten, the most recent numbers are as follows:

Kindergarten reading
• 77 percent or 49 or 64 students scored 18 or higher on the LETRS Spelling assessment, an increase of 68 percent over baseline
• 83 percent or 53 of 64 kindergartners scored 12 or higher on the aimsweb plus initial sounds assessment, an increase of 40 percent over baseline
• 32 percent or 27 of 64 students scored 24 or higher on aimswebPlus auditory vocal, with an additional 15 students scoring a 23.
• 53 percent or 34 of 64 students scored 49 or higher on aimswebPlus letter naming fluency, an increase of 50 percent over baseline
• 31 percent or 20 of 64 students scored 42 of higher on aimswebPlus letter sound fluency, an increase of 31 percent from baseline. Some 16 students scored between 40 and 43.
• 67 percent or 43 of 64 students scored a 3 or higher on the Wonders Phonics Assessment, in increase of 66 percent from baseline

Kindergarten math
• 88 percent or 56 of 64 students proficient or above in counting cardinality, an increase of 61 percent over baseline
• Zero percent proficient or above in operations and algebraic thinking, a measure not assessed at the beginning of the year. A total of 38 students scored a two.
• 59 proficient or above in numbers and operations base, a measure not assessed at the beginning of the year. A total of 17 students scored a two.

First grade reading
• 34 percent or 24 of 71 students scored a six or higher on LETRS spelling, an increase of 33 percent from baseline
• 37 percent or 26 of 71 students scored a 55 or higher on aims webPlus oral reading fluency, an increase of 33 percent from baseline
• 17 percent or 12 of 71 students scoring a 25 or higher on aimswebPlus auditory vocabulary, with an additional 17 students scoring a 24.
• 27 percent or 19 of 71 students scored proficient or above on Wonders Phonemic Awareness, an increase of 37 percent from baseline
• 38 percent or 27 of 71 students scored 54 or above on aimswebPlus nonsense word fluency, an increase of 30 percent from baseline

First grade math
• 30 percent of 21 of 70 students met benchmark for end of year first grade assessment, with an additional 29 approaching
• 30 percent or 21 of 70 students met end of year benchmark for the first grade assessment, with an additional 28 approaching
• 69 percent or 48 of 70 students met end of year benchmark for first grade assessment, with an additional 16 approaching
• 51 percent or 36 of 71 students scored 20 or higher on aimswebPlus concept and applications, an increase of
• 38 percent or 27 of 71 students scored 30 or higher on aimswebPlus number comparison frequency, an increase of 29 percent over baseline
• 56 percent or 40 of 71 students scored 14 or higher on aimswebPlus math fact and fluency, an increase of 52 percent over baseline

Second grade reading
• 22 percent or 13 of 60 students scored 97 or higher on aimswebPlus oral reading fluency, with an additional seven students scoring 90 to 96
• 58 percent or 35 of 60 students scored a 162 or highs on aimsweb Plus reading comprehension, an increase 30 percent from baseline
• 73 percent or 44 of 60 students scored 167 or higher on aimswebPlus vocal, an increase 40 percent from baseline
• 18 percent or 11 of 60 students scored an eight or higher on LETRS basic spelling list, an increase of 16 percent from baseline
• 27 percent or 16 of 60 students scored a 14 or above on Wonders Phonics, in increase of 24 percent from baseline

Second grade math
• 72 percent of students met the benchmark for the end of year second grade assessment, an increase of 36 percent over baseline
• 63 percent or 38 of 60 students met benchmark standards for end of year assessment
• 15 percent or nine of 60 students met end of year benchmark for the second grade assessment
• 58 percent or 34 of 59 students scored 167 or higher on aimswebPlus concepts and applications, an increase of 46 percent over baseline
• 80 percent or 48 of 60 students scored a nine or higher on aimswebPlus number comparison, an increase of 59 percent over baseline
• 58 percent or 35 of 60 students scored 14 or higher on aimswebPlus computation fluency, an increase of 31 percent over baseline

Third grade reading
• 39 percent or 25 of 64 students scored 110 or higher on aimswebPlus oral reading fluency, an increase of 13 percent over baseline
• 66 percent or 42 of 64 students scored 176 or higher on aimswebPlus reading comprehension, an increase of 26 percent over baseline
• 70 percent or 45 of 64 students scored 178 or higher on aimswebPlus vocal, an increase of 16 percent over baseline
• 33 percent or 21 of 63 students scored a seven or higher on LETRS advanced spelling list, an increase of 18 percent over baseline
• 72 percent or 46 of 64 students scored 16 or above on Wonders Phonics, an increase of 31 percent over baseline

Third grade math
• 42 percent or 27 of 64 students met benchmark for end of year third grade assessment, an increase of 42 percent from baseline
• 67 percent or 43 of 64 students met benchmark for end of year third grade assessment, an increase of 67 percent over baseline
• Six percent or 4 of 64 students met benchmark for end of year third grade assessment
• 45 percent or 29 of 64 students scored 181 or higher on aimswebPlus concepts and applications, an increase of 33 percent from baseline
• 70 percent or 45 of 64 students scored 18 or higher on aimswebPlus number comparison, an increase of 19 percent from baseline
• 40 percent or 26 of 64 students scored 14 or higher on aimsweb Plus computation fluency, a decrease of two students compared with baseline

“We’re going to keep working to bring the scores higher,” Lew said of working towards the end of the year. “Our teachers are putting in a lot of time.”
