Returning councilman to fill Karlen’s seat Ward 2 seat available as ballot write-in
What’s the difference between a recall and a re-call, in modern political terms?
A ‘recall’ is when the people fire you through a special referendum or election, often for poor governance. A hyphenated ‘re-call,’ on the other hand, is when you get called back to public service after trying to retire, on account that experience is deemed valuable for getting the job done and done right.
In that vein of thought, S-B alumnus Mike Henke was just re-called (called back) to service on the city council, being first appointed by Mayor Al Haas, approved by his council peers through an oversight vote which saw a ‘no from Hodowanic and abstention by Mark Fitzsimmons, then being sworn in by the City Administrator/ Clerk-Treasurer Nicole Thiel last Monday night, February 1st. Henke will fill out the term of Mike Karlen, who resigned on account of other responsibilities some time back.
In the meantime, someone who lives within the Ward 2 boundaries as existing north of Maple Street in Stanley is still needed to fill out the eight member council, as no one has filed for the seat in the upcoming spring election.
