into town to get gas for it, go inside , and when you come out are told the engine has flames underneath, and not to go near it. Sound far fetched?
Unfortunately it’s not. Taking place Monday morning after 9 a.m., a car fire at Kwik Trip in Stanley took just such a turn, with the fire station called by staff from inside the building and passerby using an extinguisher to slow the fire down, before Stanley Police raced to the scene and Stanley Fire Engine 1 pushed the smoking vehicle out of the gas pump area, lest further harm befall the situation. Boyd-Edson-Delmar Medic 2 Ambulance was also on site in minutes.
Along with the unsuccessful fire extinguisher use, the emergency shut off was also used. Following extinguishing and cleanup, Stanley Fire Chief Korey Hagenson reflected on what could have been, given the vehicle’s initial proximity to the gas pumps.
“We had a good response,” he said. “It could have been a lot worse.”
The vehicle was removed from the scene by Breezy Acres, with the owner and a friend picked up from the scene by third party.
