Arriving at Madison Thursday to compete in the Division 3 State competition, Breckin Burzynski and Sasha Nitz were ready to go. When the night was over, both would advance to Friday competition, Nitz taking fourth overall in Division 3 and Burzynski battling his way to one match from the podium. Wrestling Coach Greg Burszynski had thoughts to share on each boy's performance at State.
Of Nitz, Coach Burzynski said that, “Sasha wrestled an awesome tournament this weekend.
He kept himself in matches by sticking to the things he is good at. He did a very good job controlling all opponents in the front headlock position. He is just so good there. If he is not going to score from it, he will definitely frustrate opponents and likely cause them to make other mistakes.”
As to Nitz placing fourth overall, Coach Burzynski went on. "In the consolation semi –
final, he showed a lot of heart and determina tion to win that match in the ultimate tie breaker This weekend was a great end to his career.
He should be proud of himself for sure. He had one of the best runs I have had the opportunity to coach in a state tournament. He is also very fun to be around. You never know what you are going to get, but Sasha will most likely make you laugh.”
Of Breckin's performance in State compe tition at Madison, Coach Burzynski shared the following.
"I thought he wrestled well," Burzynski said. “He went out Thursday night and beat a very good kid from Wittenberg-Birnamwood. His first loss in the quarters was to the eventual fi nalist(Sullivan). His 7-3 loss in that match was closer than Sullivan's semifinal later that night.
The loss in the consolation wrestle backs was a tough one. Breckin was up a couple of points with less than 30 seconds left and couldn't hold the lead. They (Breckin and McKittrick) both battled to the end in that match. He ended up one match from the podium, but still proved himself to be top 8 in the state.”
As to Nitz, this is his last year wrestling for Stanley-Boyd, as he is currently a senior.
As for Breckin Burzynski, there's still some time left to surpass old thresholds and potentially return to State.
