Nona: What are your thoughts on these people trying to recall our beloved governor?

Liberal Lars Lars: You know Grandma Nona well enough to know that I don't vote and tell! To me, politics is like an old family recipe: Never give out your secrets!

I will tell you, that I wish I would have dumped the old rotary telephone the last few days. The Republicans are calling about Trump, and the Democrats are calling about Biden. And now I’ve had three people at my double-wide in the last week trying to get me to recall the governor.

Leave me alone!

My phone is ringing almost as much these days as when I

got my first permanent and the fellows were dialing my number to be the first one to take me out for the Saturday night pork chop buffet over at the Legion hall.

Some people think that we shouldn't be able to recall politicians, but why the heck not? Half of our marriages (and all three of mine, including two to my second husband twice-removed) end in recalls. That's what America has come to: If you don't like it, throw it away. Politicians, unlike wine, don't get better with age. They're more like that hunk of cheese in the back of your refrigerator.

Elections these days have taught me a valuable lesson, though. I better start doing a better job at everything I do. Pretty soon, someone is going to send around a petition and get me recalled from my highpaying job here at the newspaper. That would be a shame!

I'm going to start a few petitions of my own, though. Nosy Nellie is going to have a target on her back pretty quick. I'm going to start circulating papers to get her spot at the first table at the Polish Church Potluck. She's always trying to figure out my meatball recipe, so she throws her crock pot right next to mine. She's going to be way down with the cocktail weenies on table three, if the voters listen to me.

And if they don't, I'll recall them too!

Ain't America great!

Blueberry Zucchini Bread Ingredients

3 large eggs, lightly beaten 1 cup vegetable oil 3 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 ¼ cups white sugar 2 cups shredded zucchini 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon baking soda 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1 pint fresh blueberries

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease 4 mini-loaf pans.

In a large bowl, beat together the eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar. Fold in the zucchini. Beat in the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Gently fold in the blueberries. Transfer to the prepared mini-loaf pans.

Bake 50 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted in the center of a loaf comes out clean. Cool 20 minutes in pans, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
