Partnership between Jeff and Morgan Milas, Michael Derks became reality in December of 2019
With Graduation coming soon, chances are you may need a tent. If so, it wouldn’t hurt to give Northwoods Tent Rental LLC a call. With tents sized to fit just about any need, the business venture run as a partnership by local science teacher Jeff Milas and his wife Morgan, along with business partner Michael Derks, has just what you’ll need to pull off a successful celebration or other event. So how did it all begin?
“ The business started while on a long car ride back from a fishing trip and the idea became a reality in December of 2019,” co-owner Jeff Milas shared of the business venture with Otter Lake address that rents and sets up canopy tents for customers. “The business started last year as a “mostly” summer job, and has become a business that takes place year round for a variety of events. We are open every day of the week basically because we take tent rental inquiries at all times of the day,” he said.
Purchased from Dixon’s Apple Orchard, the tent business is supplemental to the three business partner’s full-time jobs. “We purchased the company as a supplemental business for both of us,” Milas shared recently. “I am a high school science teacher, my wife works in title work, and Michael is a dairy farmer. We all balance the business with our full-time jobs.” As to tents offered for graduation and other festivities, Milas said that, “all of our tents are staked in the ground,” with 14 to 18-foot center poles along with seven to eight-foot side poles for bracing. Among the roof color options for customers to choose from are all white, blue stripes, red stripes, and even green stripes, Milas said. All the tent side walls, meanwhile, are white or clear in color “and can easily be added to any of our tents,” Milas said recently. In addition, the high peak of each tent helps shed rain, sleet, or snow from above the given renter’s event, while the side walls can help with wind, rain, “or to offer enclosure for heating purposes,” Milas said. “They (the walls) are easy to attach and take down whenever the need presents itself.” But in case you’re saying ‘I’m not good at tent set-up,’ that’s ok. The rental price includes set-up and take down.
“All of our tent prices include set up and take down,” Milas said. “We rent things individually so people can pick and choose what they need based on what works best for them.” Those interested in tent rental can also rent “just tables, just chairs, just a tent, or any combination!” he said. Typical rental rates are from Thursday through Monday, meaning that a 20 x 40 graduation tent rented over the weekend would cost the renter $285, before tax.
“You would have the tent from Thursday to Monday and only pay $285,” Milas explains of the 20 x 40-foot option. We are very flexible for people and can adjust based on their needs. Any amount of time after that is an additional price per day based off of what they rented.” With sizes ranging from 20 x 20 feet all the way up to 40 x 120 feet, tent rental begins at $185 and progresses up the size scale to $1650 for the 40 x 120-foot option. Tent sidewalls are $10 per $20 foot panel, with blacktop plugs costing $2 each. For those interested in a stage the cost is $400, while an eight-foot banquet table is $8 and a 6-foot rectangular table just $6. Brown and black chairs, meanwhile, are just one-dollar and fifty cents each. So what about delivery? Turns out, it’s covered!
“We deliver and set up all of our tents, tables, and chairs,” Milas said. “We take care of everything from the set up to the take down. Planning events can be stressful enough, so we alleviate that stress by setting up the tents well in advance and taking down after the event is over, which is usually the next day,” he said. So how do interested renters get a hold of Northwoods Tent Rental? Milas shared the details.
“The best way for people to contact us is by calling or texting 715-429-0358,” he said. “Please leave a message with a name and number and we will get back to you!
