Tied at the half, with three timeouts in the last minute of play. Winning by one point to finish 57-56 against the Macks. Such were the highlights of the Oriole boys varsity game against McDonell this past week. Orioles Head Coach Dakota Nichols shared how it all went down at the end.
“We were down by six with under three minutes left, but our team showed incredible resiliency and mental toughness,” he said. “The kids stepped up with key defensive stops and executed when it mattered most. After a McDonell missed free throw, we burned the clock and were able to get a good look at the hoop. Charlie showed composure and determination, finishing with an and-one layup. He then made his free throw to put us up 1. This win is a testament to the heart and grit of our players, and it’s a moment we’ll all remember as a team.”
With crossover and playoffs bearing down fast, the Orioles play Bloomer Friday, Feb. 21 at Stanley-Boyd. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
