“One of the things that has made this team very competitive is we have many different players that can lead us in scoring,” Coach Tom Hause said of last week’s home game by the Orioles boys varsity against Thorp. With Henry Hoel scoring four free throws and a pair of two pointers to make eight points in the first half, Carsen Hause took the team lead in the second half, with three free throws, a pair of two pointers, and one outside the three-point line.

Overall the score Thursday against Thorp came out 58 – 37 in the Orioles favor. That’s not to say things are perfect yet though.

"Our defense was very good in the first half," said Hause. “We were able to hold them to 12 points. The second half we did not move as well and committed some fouls that we need to eliminate.”

In spite of some flaws, however, the Oriole boys came away victorious, thanks to an all hands on deck mentality that saw Hause score 17 game points, Hoel score 11, and Cooper Nichols and Lucas Smith score 10 each.

Folllowing on this, Brady Potaczek came away with seven points total, while Landon Karlen contributed two and Logan Burzynski a free throw.

As to fouls in the first half, the Oriole total was just three compared to eight for Thorp, while the second half saw the Orioles rack up seven fouls compared to 10 for the Cardinals.

For game play, the Orioles led in the first half, the score when the buzzer rang standing 32 – 12 in Stanley-Boyd’s favor.

Coming back from the half, Thorp made a strong effort, coming away with 25 points, or one under the number of points scored by Stanley- Boyd after the half.

Moving forward in the season, the Oriole boys are scheduled to face off with Bloomer at Home on Friday February 4 at 7:30 p.m., followed with an away game against Regis on February 10, also at 7:30 p.m.

Following the game against Regis the Orioles are due to face Osseo-Fairchild at home February 15, with game play starting at 7:30 p.m., while they play Fall Creek in an away game February 18.

Finally and after facing off against Marathon on February 21 in an away game, the Oriole boys are due to play 8th Place East away, while crossover games are scheduled for Saturday February 26.
