The Oriole boys golf season is in swing for 2025. Playing at Bloomer this past Friday were Derrick Lato (48), Carsen Woodcock (44), Brenner Myers (47), Carter Ketterhagen (53), and Ryan Stark (49). The team placed fourth overall.
Oriole Head Boys Golf Coach Devon Wenndt shared more on the season thus far and looking ahead.
“We’ve been blessed with a mild winter, and have been able to maximize our outdoor practice time thus far, Wenndt said. “Getting to see the ball fly and react outside as opposed to being relegated to hitting balls into a net 10 feet in front of you is invaluable, and has allowed us to make good strides already.” With a third match this past Tuesday at Whispering Pines, Wenndt said the team was getting in the swing of things quickly.
“Our JV players get to see their first competitive action as well with 3 matches this week, so we are getting into the swing of things quickly,” he said. “We have a rather unique blend of veteran upperclassmen and completely green underclassmen this year, and all seem to be pushing each other for those coveted varsity spots. The best news so far is that our areas that we need to improve upon have been very evident through our first two matches, so that makes things relatively straightforward for the near future. With a few tweaks that will allow us to avoid some unforced errors, and a lot of short game practice, we should be able to field a very competitive squad. Hopefully those improvements that we have already seen in practice take shape in competition sooner rather than later, but I’m confident that they will show up nonetheless. It’s shaping up to be a very fun year this season, and I’m looking forward to watching our boys push each other to be better both on and off the course.”
