“I think we are starting to play more consistent baseball and we have been improving throughout the season. If we can get rid of our one bad inning a game we can compete with any team we face.”
This is the assessment given by Coach Ryan Sturm of the varsity baseball team and its prospects following a Friday loss 7 – 2 to Edgar, with a win over Spencer 8 – 1 earlier on Monday May 16.
With the regular season fast drawing to a close the Oriole boys varsity stands 5 – 13 in terms of wins versus losses, while the game against Spencer Monday showcased team abilities.
Coming in for top mention was Brett Kroeplin with three runs in as many at bats, while the team as a whole struck out 10 Spencer batters compared to just eight strikeouts for Stanley- Boyd. With eight runs total against Spencer and a team RBI of 5 the Orioles could have their postseason future decided this week, with games on Tuesday May 31 and Wednesday June 1, both taking place after press time.
